Prof. Dr. Hetan C. Shah is a senior interventional cardiologist and US Board-Certified Cardio-Oncologist through the International Cardio-Oncology Society (IC-OS), with expertise spanning complex coronary intervention, structural heart disease, valvular heart disease, heart failure and cardio-oncology.
She is Professor of Cardiology at Seth GS Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai, and is associated with Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre and Breach Candy Hospital, with clinical consultation at Padam Heart Care Centre, Dadar, Mumbai. Her professional background also includes cardio-oncology work with Tata Memorial Hospital/ACTREC.
Advancing cardio-oncology in India
Dr. Shah has been actively involved in the development and advancement of cardio-oncology in Mumbai, including her association with Tata Memorial Centre and ACTREC.
Her approach to cardio-oncology goes beyond surveillance for conventional treatment-related cardiotoxicity. She focuses on the complete cardiovascular care of the patient with cancer, particularly when significant pre-existing or treatment-related cardiovascular disease could affect the ability to receive optimal cancer therapy.

Founding Collaborative Member, Cardio-Oncology Indian Network
Dr. Shah is a Founding Collaborative Member of the Cardio-Oncology Indian Network (COIN), a national multidisciplinary academic initiative being developed to strengthen cardio-oncology collaboration across India and to work toward the development of an India Chapter of the International Cardio-Oncology Society (IC-OS).
COIN brings together clinicians from multiple disciplines, including cardiology, oncology, haematology, radiation oncology, cardiac imaging, paediatric oncology, paediatric cardiology and allied specialties.
The initiative aims to build a national academic platform for:

- Case-based learning
- Research
- Multicentre evidence
- India-specific recommendations
The long-term vision is to develop stronger multidisciplinary networks and pragmatic, evidence-based approaches to cardio-oncology that reflect the needs of patients and healthcare systems across India.
Dr. Shah's participation in this initiative reflects her commitment to the development of cardio-oncology as an organised clinical and academic specialty in India.
Academic and scientific contributions
Dr. Shah is actively involved in IC-OS scientific and educational programmes, with regular participation in lectures, seminars, webinars and academic discussions on contemporary cardio-oncology.
She has also conducted and participated in CME programmes and multidisciplinary educational initiatives aimed at increasing awareness of cardiovascular complications in patients with cancer.
A recent academic contribution is her participation as a multidisciplinary expert panelist in the Indian Delphi consensus on cardiovascular risk mitigation in prostate cancer management, published in Frontiers in Oncology in July 2026.
The consensus addressed practical, India-specific approaches to cardiovascular risk assessment and management in patients with prostate cancer receiving androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT) and androgen-receptor pathway inhibitors (ARPIs), emphasising baseline cardiovascular assessment, ECG and cardiometabolic evaluation, risk stratification, cardiology referral and multidisciplinary management. Dr. Shah is formally listed among the expert panel members of this national consensus.

Beyond cardiotoxicity
Modern cardio-oncology is evolving beyond the traditional concept of detecting a decline in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).
Dr. Shah's clinical and academic interests encompass the broader cardiovascular spectrum of cancer care, including early cardiovascular risk assessment, ECG abnormalities, biomarkers, myocardial injury, strain imaging, coronary artery disease, valvular disease, arrhythmias, structural heart disease, heart failure and long-term cardiovascular health of cancer survivors.
Her particular strength lies in combining cardio-oncology with interventional, structural and heart-failure expertise, allowing complex cardiovascular conditions to be addressed rather than simply monitored.
A multidisciplinary vision
Dr. Shah believes that the future of cardio-oncology lies in close collaboration between cardiologists and oncologists, supported by imaging specialists, interventional cardiologists, structural-heart teams, heart-failure specialists and other healthcare professionals.
Her objective is to help patients receive the best possible cancer treatment while maintaining cardiovascular health, functional capacity and quality of life.
